Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the term given to the therapeutic use of the natural state of hypnosis. Hypnosis has been used for many years to bring about positive change in the mind and body. Being in a hypnotic trance is similar to daydreaming, where you feel safe and at ease whilst being fully focussed on thoughts and images. I work with your goals and desires in mind, using positive suggestions and techniques tailored to your individual situation. You are always in control and can move, open your eyes or speak if you want to. You will be able to hear what is said, but at times you may feel that the words are somewhat distanced from you. It is usually a positive, relaxing and uplifting experience.

How does it work?

In hypnosis your unconscious mind (storing beliefs, memories, habits and processes out of your awareness) is more open to suggestions from the therapist, and you find that your own inner wisdom can be harnessed to find solutions to problems, or make changes more easily. Because our body, mind and emotions are inseparable, and what happens with one effects the other, hypnosis can be used to positively influence all areas of your life.

Research shows that using hypnosis or guided imagery on a regular basis, can help you feel more calm, relaxed and  more in control of your life therefore able to cope with stress better. It can also help in recovery from an illness, managing pain or simply when you need to take a little time for yourself. As part of your treatment, be prepared to adopt a daily routine where you practice self-hypnosis, meditation or relaxation. Recovery and any change requires you to let go of old unhelpful habits, and adopt some new ones. This is definitely a routine that will help you get what you want.

Hypnosis for IBS

I also offer Gut Directed Hypnotherapy for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other Functional Gut Disorders (FGD) such as non-cardiac chest pain and functional dyspepsia. This approach has been developed by IBS Specialist and Gastroenterologist Professor Whorwell and his team at South Manchester Functional Bowel Service, and has shown benefits for up to 70% of patients. Hypnotherapy is recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for IBS if other treatments have been unsuccessful.

Please Note: You need to have a diagnosis of IBS or FGD from your Doctor before this treatment can be commenced.

Emotional Freedom Techniques

This is a simple technique that combines tapping on acupressure points on the body whilst focussing on a problem to address emotional issues or physical ailments. It has been used effectively with many problems such as fears and phobias, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, performance issues, pain, fibromyalgia, weight control in fact any issue that brings negative emotion, EFT can be tried on. Much is written about the link between holding negative emotion and stress in the body and physical ailments. EFT can therefore reduce that burden and help you feel happier and healthier. A review of the research on EFT can be found here.

Gary Craig developed EFT and made it easy to use and accessible to all. Watch the introductory video on his website.

EFT can be a simple and effective self-help tool for use in times of need, so you can feel more in control and easily work on your issues or ailments. For deeper and more problematic issues and memories, I guide you to tap through different aspects of the problem, reducing the emotional intensity step by step. It is very gentle and effective, where even the most traumatic thoughts, memories, phobias etc. can reduce to zero with lasting effects. In short it can create new nerve pathways in your brain so that you can think the thought, see the feared object, remember the incident, without experiencing the intense emotion. For deeper or more problematic issues, working with a therapist is advisable, tapping through different aspects of the problem, reducing emotional intensity as you go.

Reiki

Reiki is a gentle energy treatment that helps to balance the subtle energies of your body and release blockages. It helps to calm the mind chatter and is deeply relaxing, encouraging the body to enter a healing state where it can recover. Reiki has a cumulative effect, so weekly or fortnightly treatments are of great benefit, rather than one off sessions. You lie on a comfortable table, fully clothed whilst I place my hands on or near your body. As I have been attuned to Reiki energy, this has a cleansing and balancing effect on you at many levels.

Many people are sceptical at first until they experience the benefits of a Reiki session, which is more an experience, rather than being easy to put into words. Indeed I trained in Reiki Healing myself after first experiencing the benefits to my health from having treatment. I would be happy to do a 30 minute taster session so you can try it out first. Reiki can also be given over a distance for those who are unable to see me in person.
